Weekend Update - June 17th, 2022

Dear Parents, Caregivers and Staff:

I will keep the opening short here. This will be my last email blast as your superintendent. I am not one for long goodbyes. I just want to repeat what I have said many times over the last several weeks - I will miss this SU and all of the communities it represents. This has been a great job and I am so thankful for the opportunity. Just know that I will carry these communities in my heart always. In my other life I am a Deacon in the Catholic Church. I know this may not be very politically correct in a public school environment, but I am going to say it anyway - you will be in my thoughts and prayers as I move on. Thank you for ten of the best years of my life - the ups and the downs. This is a special place and the students, families, staff and community are special. We should never take the familiar for granted. I will miss you. You are in great hands with Christine Bourne - I am sure she will reach out to you after July 1st.

Here are a couple of other things for this week:

1) Graduation: What beautiful celebrations for our seniors, 8th graders, and 6th graders who are moving on. The graduation celebrations were a great way to send off these students. Thanks to all the staff who helped put these events together. A special thanks to all the unsung heroes - custodians, administrative assistants, and parent groups that help make these celebrations so special.

Also be advised that a group of parents are planning an SU-wide 7th and 8th grade graduation dance at the Windsor Recreation Center on 29 Union Street. It will be this evening, June 17th. It will be a great way for this age group to end the year. You can find the flier here.

2) Board Meetings: Public participation is always welcomed. It has been good to see so many of our public attending these meetings.  We have one more meeting this month listed below: In July our Boards will be having a variety of Retreats that are much more informal and really geared toward Board Planning for the following year - the regular schedule will resume in August. Here is the one remaining Board meeting link and location:

WSESU School Board Meeting
Monday, June 27, 2022 from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.
Google Meet LInk:  https://meet.google.com/yga-xswe-xxi
In Person Location:  Windsor School, Room 210, 19 Ascutney St, Windsor, VT

3)  New Dialing System (Phone): When dialing into our schools, you no longer have to dial “*” (star) prior to the extension. Just dial the extension directly. All of the extensions for staff are listed at https://www.wsesu.net/resources/directory.

4)  Summer Meals: We understand that with the prices of food and other economic pressures, family budgets may be strained this summer. The Supervisory Union is working with community partners to explore options, including home delivery of school-prepared meals for children. We can’t say how much or how often at this point. We have to work out the details and see if we can get volunteers to deliver the food. But we would like to do that if it would help!

If you are interested in home delivery of meals for children this summer, please answer this short, 4-question survey. Everyone who responds “yes” will receive an email in a few weeks, explaining how the program will work. Here is the survey link

I think that is it for now. Have a great summer and until we meet again…..
