Renaissance STAR Screening Tool
Each of our WSESU schools strives to provide the best educational experience for every student and we use many tools to accomplish this. Over the last several years, teachers utilized data from the Track My Progress Screening tool. This provided us with information we could use to make instructional decisions to support our students. Over the last few years, we conducted a needs assessment and began to explore other screening tools in search of a tool that provided us with more detailed and reliable information. After piloting a few different systems over two years, we have decided to move forward with Renaissance STAR. Renaissance STAR is not only a very reliable screening tool but also allows us to progress monitor students outside of the typical testing windows. This is a computer adaptive screener that does not limit students to only being assessed using their grade-level standards which gives us more accurate information in order to better provide students with both enrichment and intervention that is tailored to them. Our students will take their first round of the STAR assessment between September 18th and October 6th. While this assessment is only one small measure of how your student may be doing in school, we do look forward to sharing these results with you at conferences in November. For more information about Renaissance STAR, click here. If you have any questions please direct them to your student's classroom teacher.

Thank you all for your support of our cell phone procedures. Overall, students are following the procedures that we outlined. The administrative team met this week to discuss procedures for cell phones on field trips. For all K-8 students, we decided that cell phones will not be allowed on the bus ride to and from field trips. Students will be allowed to use their phone cameras to capture moments during the trip.

Finance & Operations Update
Although Vermont passed a law for free breakfast & lunch for all of our students, it is still important to fill out the free & reduced lunch form as we are in our "base year". It can also affect Title funding as well. If you haven't filled it out or you aren't sure if you did or not, you can apply online by clicking the banner below.
Thank you,
Larry Dougher
Director of Finance & Operations
