The Hartland, Weathersfield, and Mount Ascutney boards recently approved the FY24 budgets for each of our districts. Each budget is aligned with our strategic plan goals and aims to meet the needs of our students. I want to thank all our boards and communities for their continued support of our schools.

On January 3rd, our K-8 staff worked with our Leader in Me coaches on goal setting. Some of our teachers got right to work helping students set individual progress goals. Students are excited to own some of their learning through goal setting! They have identified lead measures to help them achieve their goals and they enjoy keeping track of their progress to goal.

Finance & Operations Update
As the budget process for FY24 meets the final steps of reporting in our town reports and eventually a vote at Town Meeting Day, it's important to recognize that the final product was the result of hours and hours of detailed work, dozens of meetings and work sessions among the various principals, administrators, community members, and boards of three school districts and a supervisory union. Much of that work is behind the scenes, without fanfare, and is accomplished by the excellent work of our CFO, Ed Connors. Thanks Ed for all your work on our proposed FY24 budgets.

Director of Finance & Operations

At WSESU, we are working on creating a system for data-based decision making. What this means in practice is that we have a comprehensive assessment plan for the year, time to look at the data we collect, protocols that help us examine the data, and a plan for how to use the data to improve student achievement. Individual teachers collect classroom data (daily work scores, quizzes, tests, projects) on a daily basis and use the data to inform their instruction. Three times a year, we administer assessments that allow us to determine individual student progress against standards. January is one of those times! We typically administer Track My Progress as our January assessment, but this year some teachers are piloting STAR Assessments. We are currently piloting assessments that give us a more detailed look at individual student learning.
