What PBIS is and how it looks/works at State Street School

P.B.I.S. stands for Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports. At State Street School the purpose is to develop a school-wide behavior system, based on data that promotes a positive school culture. Through establishing and teaching consistent expectations, students will achieve behavioral and academic success. School, family and community involvement happens at all levels of implementation. Students at State Street School are expected to be respectful, responsible and safe in all locations.

Steve the Stinger is our mascot, representing Windsor Yellow Jackets being respectful, responsible, and safe. When students are seen demonstrating an act of respect, responsibility, or safety, they are given a token, called a stripe coin. Stripe coins are added to a classroom collection, which is brought every other week to our community meeting/assembly. Our Steve the Stinger stripe coin collection board becomes our school wide stripe coin collection! Each classroom sends a representative to the stage with the class’s stripe coin collection. Once we fill up one of Steve’s stripes, we earn a reward!

Safety Cones: School Resource Officer, Jennifer Frank, in coordination with the Windsor Police Department and State Street School PBIS Team, will be bringing our school-wide expectations around safety out into the community by acknowledging students practicing safe behavior with a Safety Cones Ticket. Safety Cones Tickets can be used to purchase an ice cream cone at Boston Dreams, a locally based coffee shop and eatery.
