Ms. Martha Knapp, from the Hartford Historical Society, came for a visit to spend some time with the fifth graders presenting the history of the Abenaki culture. Students learned about a vast array of subjects from what they used for resources and how, three-sisters farming techniques, and various traditions and legends. Many different artifacts were shared with the students from rattles to baskets to primary document images of Native people in Vermont. Students asked questions about the Native people and the connections they had to Vermont. As they continue to study Native Americans and the geography of Vermont, connections will continue to be made between the presentation and the curriculum content. We are grateful to have such a wonderful resource as the Hartford Historical Society to connect to.
