Greetings from SCIP, School and Community in Partnership. We are Albert Bridge’s closest thing to a PTO, but we are not just a bridge between parents and teachers— we are a bridge between the school and community of Brownsville.
Unfortunately, at the moment I use the term “we” a little loosely, since there are few active participants in our organization (not to discount in any way the notable contributions of time, energy, and money by what currently amounts to a handful of people). That’s why I am sending this out. As school board chair, it is a conflict of interest for me to lead SCIP, but surely I can’t be the only person who could do it.
I propose two meetings for Tuesday, September 24th: one right after school or thereabouts, and then one at 6ish. The meeting after school will be in person; the 6:00 meeting will be a conference call.
Topics to discuss will be general ideas of projects and fundraisers for this school year and who wants to head them up, as well as whether there’s someone among us who can steer this ship. SCIP in the last couple of years has been headless, and I think that’s okay. But we do need someone to take charge of generally touching base with working groups, act as a point person, show up, and take over the purse.
This meeting is open to everyone in Brownsville, so, beyond parents, if you know someone you think might be interested in pitching in, please invite them to attend one of next Tuesday’s meetings, or at least to keep an open mind about taking part.
Hope to see you then! In the meantime, here’s SCIP’s website, which you might be interested to check out:
