"A Memorial - 17 Seconds for 17 Fallen Students/Adults"
Perhaps you have heard about National Walk Out Day to occur at 10:00 am on March 14th. Schools in our supervisory union and around the state are doing different things to commemorate the passing of 17 people on February 14th in Parkland, Florida, on the one month anniversary. Working with our superintendent, WS will offer a brief memorial in the AP Room on March 14th at 10:00 am for grades 7 and 8 and adults. We are also inviting parents and community members to join us.
Students, faculty and staff, if interested, will walk out of class silently to the AP Room and form a circle of silence at 10:00 am sharp. The principal will quietly address the group and ask for 17 seconds of silence in memory of the 17 victims who lost their lives one month ago in a school shooting in Florida. After the 17 seconds of silence, the students will silently return to their classes. For the record, there will be no mention of guns or gun legislation. Students will not be allowed outdoors.
If students from other grades and visitors come to the AP Room at 10:00 am, they will be welcome to join us, but this event is primarily for the older students.
Parents will have the right to opt-out of this event for their children. Please send an email to the principal at firstname.lastname@example.org any time between now and 8 am on March 14th stating you do not wish to have your child participate in the 17 second memorial, otherwise students who wish to walk out of their classrooms for the memorial may do so.
