On Wednesday, January 17th, the fifth and sixth grade student council members had the opportunity to host the weekly Windsor Community Dinner at the American Legion. Even with the icy road conditions, delicious entree and dessert donations from their families, Windsor school faculty, staff and administration arrived at the legion. From lasagna to chicken divan, accompanied with salad and brownies, the meal was a hit and welcome comfort food on the raw and wintry night.
Fifth and sixth graders attended to setting up and serving approximately thirty five Windsor residents on the icy evening with their student council advisor and social studies teacher, Theresa Westgate. Parents assisted in cleaning up and preparing to head home. Everyone's efforts were greatly appreciated.
The weekly community dinners are held at 5pm each week at the legion and they are free, however, donations are accepted. Anyone is welcome to come. The fifth and sixth graders commit to two meals per year because it is an opportunity for them to give back to the community and to experience the gift of service. The next community meal the fifth and sixth graders will be hosting will be held on Wednesday, March 21st. We hope to see you there.
