This year, we have been fortunate enough to run an Equal Exchange fundraiser with the support of the 5th and 6th grade student council, under the advisory of Theresa Westgate, the 5th and 6th grade social studies teacher.
Students identified that they wanted to raise money for the Norris Cotton Cancer Center in honor of Windsor, Vermont cancer patients. The fourth, fifth, and sixth grade sold enough products to make $260 to donate to the center.
By using the Equal Exchange fundraiser, students not only sold products like coffee and chocolate, they learned about fair trade, organic goods that would benefit those around the world and the environment, which connected to a larger goal of civic duty.
We are grateful for all those who participated in this event and we look forward to next year. Products went out for delivery on June 9th and will be delivered to those who ordered as soon as possible. Be on the look out for your fair trade products!
