Act 46 Update

Dear Members of our School Community:

The Windsor Southeast Act 46 Committee has finished their review of the available options under the merger law. It has taken almost two years of researching and vetting the various options. The committee now wants to take those options out to our respective communities. So, we are scheduling a series of forums during the week of April 10th. The forums are all scheduled during the same week because at least one of the options has a time restriction approval deadline by the Sate Board. It is important that we get some early feedback from our communities in a timely fashion. The dates and times are as follows:

April 10th    6:00 PM   West Windsor
April 11th    6:00 PM   Weathersfield
April 12th    6:00 PM   Hartland
April 13th    6:00 PM   Windsor

It is strongly suggested that if a forum date and time does not work in your community that you make an effort to attend a forum in another community. After a presentation, attendees will be asked to participate in a brief Exit Survey that indicates preferences. The Act 46 Committee will use community input and these surveys as they make their final deliberations on the options.

If the Act 46 Committee can decide on an option, then a proposal will be sent to the Agency of Education. If approved at that level, it goes to the State Board. If approved there, it is then warned and the option goes before the voters.  As you can see, there are several steps remaining. It would also be the intent of the Act 46 Committee, if an option is chosen, to bring another set of informational forums to the public before a final vote. We want any decision to be an informed decision. Consistent with the law, we potentially are reshaping our supervisory union for a very long time. That is why the committee has taken so much time to do their due diligence.

We look forward to seeing you at a forum. If you have any questions, please contact your Board Chair, who is an active member of the Act 46 Committee. Of course, you can always contact me anytime.
