Abenaki speaker

The 5th and 6th grade students had the opportunity to host Martha Knapp of the Hartford Historical Society of Vermont on February 12th during a presentation about the Abenaki tribal history of Vermont.  Many different pieces of information was shared regarding clothing, food, natural resources, legends, contact with Europeans and transportation.  Questions were asked regarding the many trails the Abenakis created that were turned into roads and railways.  Some history was shared regarding how Europeans changed the environment in which the Abenakis lived.  It is such a rich history that we just scratched the surface and there will be opportunities to continue learning as the Native American Unit continues.  Many artifacts and images were shared with the students too.  Thank you to Mrs. Knapp for sharing your presentation with us!
