Important Changes in Honor Roll

Revised Honor and High Honor Roll Information – Nov. 30, 2016

HONOR ROLL
7th and 8th Grades

The honor roll criteria and process has not changed much for our 7th and 8th graders in FY 17.  There will no longer be a merit roll. The following procedure is used to determine the honors and high honors status in grades 7 and 8:

1. All subjects are considered for honor roll eligibility.

2. Students must make up Incompletes within five school days upon return to school in order to be considered for honor roll.

3. No 1’s or 2’s on the report card- transferable skills do not count this first year.

                        High Honors                           All A’s

                        Honors                                    All A’s and B’s

WEATHERSFIELD HONORS NIGHT
Historically, Honors Night has been a celebration for students in grades 5-8 who qualified for honor roll or high honor roll in each of the first two trimesters of the school year. With the change in grading for grades 5 and 6, the faculty worked long and hard trying to figure out a way to create an honors system using standards instead of traditional grading.  In the interest of continuing the tradition of honoring academic excellence, we devised a system so that Honors Night will continue to be a celebration for students in grades 5-8. At the ceremony, students who have qualified for honor roll or high honor roll in each of the first two trimesters of the school year will receive a medallion on a ribbon with a pin noting the year they qualified for honors. Additionally, eighth grade honors students will receive a plaque at this event. Families provide a pot luck dinner, following which that year’s winner of the Mario Bevacqua Scholarship has acted as a guest speaker.  This year, the second trimester closes on March 3, 2017. The Honors Night roster for the April/May 2017 dinner will be determined within a few weeks of the close of that reporting period. Parents will be notified in April if their child is eligible and when the dinner will be held.
