9th Grade Marshmallow Challenge

Under the facilitation of 9th Grade Math Teacher, Tammy Sykie, students in her Math class participated in a team building activity (competition), that required collaboration, communication and higher order thinking.

The competition is better know as the "Marshmallow Challenge." The Marshmallow Challenge is a fun, innovative exercise that encourages teamwork. In 18 minutes, teams must build the tallest free standing structure out of 20 sticks of spaghetti, tape, string, and a marshmallow. The goal is to create the tallest structure with the marshmallow resting on top.

The winning team created a structure that was 18 1/4" tall!
