Students at State Street School participated in a Free Kids program, Baking For Good, where an instructor from King Arthur Flour came and demonstrated the the art of baking bread. Following the presentation, students in grades 4, 5, and 6 used ingredients provided by King Arthur Flour, and baked two loaves of bread each.
The students then donated one of their loaves to a couple of our local organizations: the Community Food Shelf, The Willows, Historic Homes of Runnemede, and the Davis Home. Our students learned the joy and satisfaction that comes from helping others in our community by donating over 100 loaves of bread!
The students used math skills for measuring, science information as they learned about yeast and baking tips, problem solving and time management. Each student was able to bring home the extra flour, a dough scrapper, and a recipe book from King Arthur Flour along with a loaf of freshly baked bread!
