Fourth Grade Captivated by Wildfire Stories

The 4th grade class starts each day with a morning meeting in which students are invited to share something with the class. On Tuesday May 5th, both classes had a special treat when 4th grade student Travis McAllister, brought in his dad, Kevin, to share with the class. Mr. McAllister brought in all his uniforms to show us his many important jobs. His jobs include Lieutenant of the West Hartford Connecticut Police Department, Police Officer for the town of Windsor, Assistant Chief of the Windsor Fire Department, Vermont State Game Warden, and  a National Wildfire Fighter. While we loved hearing about all his jobs, it’s safe to say we were all captivated with his wildfire stories. It was interesting to learn about the training and yearly physical test. Do you think you can power walk three miles in 40 minutes while carrying 65 pounds? At the end of the share, it was a unanimous that our favorite story was when Mr. McAllister went to help fight a wildfire in Minnesota and had to canoe an hour to and from work! Thanks to Travis for sharing your incredibly busy dad with our class.
