Snowshoeing in Paradise Park

Twelve sixth graders were treated to an early spring snowshoe on March 11th in Paradise Park. We snowshoed into the park on the Lake Trail which we found out was loose granular and very slippery. The students learned why snowshoes have sharp cleats on the toe and heel plates and used them wisely so they didn't slide back.
Once we headed up on the Ridge Trail snow conditions were soft and much easier to traverse. Students headed into the clearing where we had a quick snack and then headed down over the Zig Zag Trail where we again ran into slippery trails. Snowshoeing is an excellent cardiovascular workout and layering for this outdoor adventure was called for on this spring like day!
