Cross Country Skiing at the Strafford Nordic Center

We had been experiencing spring like conditions and then came March 12th with the wind chill back and snow blowing down the fields into our faces!! Yes - this was the day we picked to learn to cross country ski! It took a little getting use to (the weather that is), but once a quick lesson on gliding and using your poles to push off close to your heels and the sixth graders were off and skiing!
The sun came out and warmed our faces and the students took to the trails....it was so awesome to see so many skiers gliding through the fields on the trails and smiling!!!! A quick lunch and back outside, clicking into their binding and off they went again! We skied all afternoon and then quickly enjoyed a cup of real hot chocolate from the Strafford Dairy and home to tell our tales!! I look forward to seeing a few of these students racing on x-country skis in the future or hearing about their back-country ski adventures!
This was all supported by the Byrne Foundation which gave our PE program funds to do outdoor winter activities!
