The school year is well underway and I continue to be amazed on a daily basis at the accomplishments and abilities of our students. This is our third year as a K-12 school. As a result, both the elementary and high school continue to benefit from the advantages of being under one roof. On any given day, high school students can be found in one or more of our elementary classrooms working with younger students. High school students in the Four Winds Program recently finished teaching a unit on spiders in grades K-6. This week’s Farm to School lesson, led by high school students, is on broccoli. Speaking of broccoli, Veggie Palooza is scheduled for October 20th, 2015 from 5:00-6:00 PM in the elementary school. Students are provided with a recipe and ingredients to prepare a dish to serve. The event will kick off with apple cider pressed by Aaron Day and a garden clean up with Amy Richardson and Margaret Russo at 4:00 PM.
All students in grades K-8 just completed the fall window of Track My Progress. Track My Progress is an online assessment that quickly and easily provides information about students’ learning in reading, language and math. Teachers use the data to better inform their classroom instruction.
Research has provided compelling evidence that the most effective, cost-efficient, and sustainable strategy for improving instructional quality is a teacher driven professional learning community. When teachers talk to other teachers, when they share what works and what doesn’t, and when they build strong professional relationships that motivate and inspire, instruction improves, student performance rises, and schools become better places to learn. Windsor Schools’ teachers are committed to providing the highest quality education for all of our students and dedicate their time working collaboratively with colleagues strategizing how to do so. I am proud to work with the teachers at Windsor Schools.
Because Windsor Schools continually updates our school website I will only be updating principal notes on a monthly basis. Please check our website often. It is the perfect place to find out more about our faculty, academics, athletics, upcoming events, highlights and much more.
