Dear Faculty, Staff, Parents and Communities:
It has been a little while since I last updated you on on Act 46. As some of you may know, all four of our town school boards voted to participate in a formal Act 46 Study Committee charged with investigating merger options that are consistent with the law and potentially acceptable to our communities. Much of the time spent in the forums this summer looked at options that were directed at a year one merger. The first year provides the best tax incentives and also avoids the most severe penalties. Our first year options are very limited, so the school boards have directed the Study Committee to look at options that might be available beyond the first year. This will require focus and determination, but each board appointed excellent community representatives. Each town has four members appointed. They are as follows:
Win Townsend Deborah Gurney
John Tansey Patty Kelly
David Morin Anthony French
Amy McMullen Nate McKeen
West Windsor Hartland
Pat Eastman Sarah Stewart Taylor
Tim Mello Joe Silver
David Hill Stacy Wilbur
Art Keating Bettina Read
The first meeting is scheduled for October 28th at 6:00 PM in Room 210 at Windsor School. Please feel free to attend. All of these meetings are warned and are open to the public. This first meeting will be dedicated to organizational tasks and a quick review of the Act 46 legislation and the possibilities contained therein. The agenda, along with other pertinent information is located on the WSESU web site under the Act 46 logo. If you click that logo on the web site another screen will pop up with the Study Committee link. Click on that link and you will find a variety of documents. We will be keeping the agendas and the minutes at that link. If you would rather bookmark it, here is the URL: http://www.wsesu.net/act-46-study-committee
I want to thank those community members willing to serve. I am convinced that we will find an option that is suitable to our communities. These are all strong districts with strong histories. We want to make every effort to capitalize on those strengths.
Please never hesitate to email me or call me if you have a questions. I am sure that your representatives would like to hear from you as well. This will be hard work, but it will be very rewarding work.
