This school year, 2nd grade students in Mrs. Henson’s class are pen pals with Mrs. Bodley’s 2nd grade class at Albert Bridge School in Brownsville.
In the fall, Mrs. Henson's class received letters and pictures from Mrs. Bodley’s class introducing themselves and asking us very specific questions. They sent letters back to them, introducing themselves as well as answering all of their questions.
At the beginning of this month, Mrs. Henson's class spent one day learning the meaning of a New Year’s resolution, and each student wrote two of their own. They then decided to write a New Year’s letter to their pen pals sharing our resolutions and asking them to share theirs with us. If you are interested in reading our letters, check them out on our bulletin board across the hall from Ms. Fotion’s door.
Having pen pals at ABS has been a meaningful way for students to practice using skills learned during their writing unit on writing a friendly letter back in the fall. Before the end of the school year, Mrs. Henson's class hopes to meet their pen pals in person. It hasn’t been decided yet exactly what form this will take – perhaps a picnic in Brownsville near the end of the school year!
