If any child is in need of hats, boots, socks, ski pants, mittens and/or coats, please let BJ or Mimi Oakman know ASAP. We have many generous community members and groups who have donated lovely things to the school and we would love to give them away to folks in need. As always, this information will remain highly confidential.
Now that winter has unofficially begun, it is important to remind students to dress appropriately for the weather. Students should come to school with hats, mittens, boots and coats, and ski pants when the heavy snow comes. Recess is a very important part of a student's day. It is a time for them to get fresh air and exercise. Often, children will come into the office asking for coats, hats and mittens. Since we have had several outbreaks of head lice, we are not loaning hats. We do lend mittens, but often they are not returned so we have had to say no to the children who frequently come in and take a pair but do not return them.
We have noticed that students continue to come to school in shorts and sweatshirts. Please be advised that they will be sent out for recess in the attire they wear to school. The students know that they go out every day and they certainly know what the weather is like when they are awaiting their bus. I hope they do not get too cold, but if they do, perhaps they will make better choices when getting ready for school the following day. I just want to make sure everyone knows that the expectation is that students should dress warmly when coming to school so they can enjoy recess, as they will be sent out for recess.
By the way, students remain indoor for recess during inclement weather or if the temps dip below 10 degrees. Thank you for your support in this matter.
